Pipeliners took time out of their busy schedules to attend the APIA Melbourne lunch, held at Hilton on the Park on 4 June.
Approximately 100 members attended the APIA Melbourne lunch, which was the first lunch held in Victoria this year.
Following a welcome by APIA Chief Executive Cheryl Cartwright, those in attendance had the opportunity to listen to an international speaker.
Dr Julia Race, a lecturer in pipeline engineering from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, shared her knowledge of carbon dioxide pipelines. Dr Race spoke about the engineering challenges in designing and constructing the pipelines, as well as the opportunities available to the Australian pipeline industry in regard to the sequestration of carbon dioxide.
She said that while carbon dioxide pipelines already exist overseas, impurities within the make-up of carbon dioxide create engineering challenges that need to be overcome. There are many challenges that need to be overcome before carbon dioxide pipelines can be successfully constructed in Australia.
