The Kogan North Central Gas Processing Facility (CGPF) is located in the Surat Basin approximately 40 km west of the township of Dalby in Queensland.

The development of this project will enable the supply of 4 PJ of gas per annum for 15 years to CS Energy’s Swanbank “E” power plant, located near Ipswich in southeast Queensland. Gas will be transported to Swanbank via the Roma to Brisbane pipeline.

Queensland Government owned CS Energy has a 50 per cent share in the project’s upstream development. Arrow Energy NL is the operator of the project and will retain a 50 per cent upstream working interest. Australian Pipeline Trust (APA) has funded the CGPF, and will own and operate the facility under a tolling arrangement.

Arrow Energy NL appointed Delco Australia Pty Ltd as the contractor under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) agreement.

Detailed design commenced in May 2005, with the target completion date for construction being end of October 2005. The commissioning phase of the project commenced in December. All of this was achieved with no medical treatment or lost time injuries for the duration of the project.

The Central Gas Processing Facility is designed to process gas from the Kogan North coal seam gas (CSG) reserves. Processing consists of compression and dehydration of the gas to meet the pressure and sales gas quality requirements of the Brisbane to Roma pipeline (RBP).

Three compressor packages have been installed to compress the raw gas up to the RBP maximum operating pressure requirement of 9600 kPag. The facility has also been designed to cater for future capacity expansion.

The compression packages include vertical coalescing filters in the suction drum, which remove particulates and free water (in the form of mist). A lube oil filter-coalescer on the compressor discharge then removes compressor lube oil.

The oil-free gas then flows through a glycol dehydration unit and TEG filter-coalescer to remove any remaining water and glycol carryover. It then passes through custody transfer metering facilities complete with on-line composition and dew point monitoring before entering the RBP via a short underground steel pipeline.

Andrew Thompson, Projects Manager for Arrow Energy said “Arrow Energy are very pleased with the service and response provided by Delco, and developed a close working relationship which has been critical to the success of the project.”
