A final investment decision has been reached by Chevron Australia for the $A29 billion Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG Development at Ashburton North, 12 km west of Onslow on the Pilbara Coast in Western Australia.
Construction will now commence immediately on the project, according to Chevron.
The foundation phase of the Wheatstone LNG Development consists of two LNG processing trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 MMt/a and associated offshore infrastructure including the processing platform, subsea equipment, drilling and an export trunkline. First gas export is planned for 2016.
The Wheatstone onshore foundation project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (operator 73.6 per cent), Apache (13 per cent), Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (7 per cent) and Shell (6.4 per cent).
