OneSteel has developed a system known as OneTrack®, which provides oil and gas pipeline customers with full pipe traceability, from steel production through to the Right of Way.
This system gives customers the comfort of having the full history of all pipe supplied for their project at their fingertips. This includes relevant linepipe production data including unique coil/pipe identifying number, pipe length, pipe grade, chemical analysis, mechanical testing results, dispatch data as well as specifically requested test results such as fracture toughness and hardness testing.
Data is also collected from subcontracted pipe mills where required. This forms the basis for the project database to which further data can be added in relation to subcontracted activities including corrosion coating and logistics.
How it works
Article continues below…Factory-related data will be collated electronically in a format that is able to interface directly into a customers system such as CMS. Field data can also be collected via the use of Palm Pilots and is downloaded into the project data base at each day’s end via a hot-sync method. Control of hot bends and pipe pups can also be included as part of the database. In addition, data entry via barcode labelling can be controlled by appropriate programming of the Palm Pilots. Accuracy is assured, thereby delivering savings both in time and effort.
How it helps
The completed OneTrack System gives customers the ability to search for data by pipe number, heat, coil, manufacture data or coating data. It also allows for quick access to all production data, accurate geographical tracking of all pipe joints, accurate invoice production and management and product failure liability control.
In essence, OneTrack has the potential to improve the efficiency of various aspects of pipeline construction, which can translate into bottom-line savings for your project.
