New report assesses reasons behind skills shortage

PricewaterhouseCoopers has released a report, titled Mind the Gap, identifying six key problems which are believed to be contributing to a skills shortage in the oil, gas and resources sector.
Research for the report was conducted by PwC between October 2011 and April 2012. More than 20 energy, resources and mining services companies operating in Australia had input, including chief executive officers, business unit leaders, vice-presidents and general managers.

The key issues identified by the report include employing too few women and the failure of Australian universities and TAFE colleges to produce enough young people with relevant skills.
