Review released for major pipeline outage

Results from the New Zealand Government’s review of the October 2011 Maui Gas Pipeline outage and subsequent work show that steps needed to be strengthen the gas system are being taken, Federal Energy and Resources Minister Phil Heatley has said.

Pipeline operator Vector Gas has assessed that the leak, which caused the Maui Gas Pipeline to be shut down for just over five days last year, was caused by a landslide.

The report brings together technical information on the outage completed for pipeline owner Maui Development Limited (MDL), the findings of a review into the performance of the contingency system for managing such outages and information on the effects of the event.
